Block 10

Clinical Experience Block 10

Arrive no later than 12:50 p.m. on your scheduled PCL Clinical Experience session or you are at risk for losing professionalism points. Bring your personal computer and stethoscope.

12:50-12:55 PM

  • Make sure you use the QR Code to sign in!
  • Orientation for the 2nd years

12:55-1:40PM

  • 2nd years doing RUSH (IVC, lung, cardiac) *staff assist*
  • Must save PSLA for post quiz in D2L
  • Intro to PCE: Dr. Broughton's lecture for 1st years

           

1:45-3:25pm

Telemedicine Encounters (1:45 or 2:35 start) 

  • (2nd year completes)
  • There will be extra time to set up Amwell Now and review workflow of the day (How to prep for your telemedicine visit, EMR, SOAP, Documentation)

Orientation to Diagnostic Ultrasound and Consent

  • (only M1s)

3:50-4:40pm

  • 1st years ultrasound blue blocks (2nd years will assist and perform US debrief with 1st year students)
  • Must save short access view of vessel with measurements for post quiz and D2L

           

 

Telemedicine Patient Encounter

REFRESH

    • (REQUIRED to review for week 4)
  • Documentation Feedback
      • NOTE: recommend a 2.5 or 3 on your overall documentation feedback.
        Reviewing the below should set you up for success to receive a 2.5 or 3 on
        your feedback. Virtual CPA is scheduled during September and those that
        haven’t gotten a 2.5-3 may need remediation for documentation
  • Review  (recommend playing at 1.5-2X speed)
    •  with minor additions to assist with chronic disease/ primary care note documentation

PREWORK REQUIRED

  • Watch
  • Review your patient's medical history and prepare for your telemedicine patient encounter
  • Recommend choosing a neurological issue to review (Example: Migraines, Neuropathy, CVA history, seizures)
  • Review  (Focus on "Cranial Nerve Exam" for Block 9 and review the "Comprehensive Neuro Telehealth Exam" for Block 10)

POSTWORK

  • All must review mentee(s) note and offered feedback 
  • Recorders must complete your patient's final note (may use M1s note and edit) by 5:00 PM 48 hours after the day of your patient encounter.  You must forward to your PCE preceptor, partner and ³¾±ð²Ô³Ù±ð±ð’s via [Secure] email if unable to write in EMR or have an SP.  If able to write in EMR must correctly forward to your PCE preceptor and the patient’s primary care provider.  If have SP encounter, send note the final note to your PCE preceptor, PCL preceptor, partner, and mentees. 
  • Once your note is sent to your Clinical Experience  Preceptor, fill out to receive documentation feedback.
  • Send feedback received from the Qualtrics survey to my Mentee(s) to review. If you had an SP encounter include your edited note in the email for them to review.

    • For Block 10, you will be practicing the first half of the RUSH exam including: PSLA, Apical 4-chamber heart, Subcostal 4-chamber heart, IVC long at Right Atrium, and Lung. You will submit these 5 images reviewed by PCL faculty during Block 10.
    • You will also be assisting Class of 2027 students who will be completing the . Please review this prior to your session as well as the . You and your M1 mentee will be scanning a gel phantom that includes 2 simulated vessels with the Linear transducer.
