English Major

Students in the English Program learn to analyze aural, visual, and written texts; to write in a variety of modes and for different audiences; to conduct independent and collaborative research; and to understand domestic and global cultures. Concentrations in the major allow students to explore subjects in more depth.

The Literature concentration immerses students in the study of American and World literatures and provides opportunities for students to work closely with faculty on academic research.  Concentrations in Creative and Professional Writing enable students to hone writing skills and to build a curated portfolio of works to present to employers or publishers. Students interested in teaching follow the Secondary Teacher Certification path, which helps them to develop the content knowledge they need in the classroom.
