What You'll Study
In the Social Work program you鈥檒l study areas including child and family welfare, human behavior, social welfare policy and different types of social work practices.
Experience-based Education
Social work students spend 12 credit hours in two field placements, applying social work knowledge and skills while supervised by a social worker in an off campus setting.
The Social Work Club is the student organization where social work students can meet with fellow students and participate in activities and service projects benefiting the community.
Small, interactive classes and individual mentoring by social workers with considerable practice experience brings the outside world into the classroom through the study of real-world challenges taught by those who encountered them.
Whether you鈥檙e an undergraduate or graduate student, you鈥檒l have opportunities to create your own research projects or work with faculty to tackle some of the world鈥檚 most complex and pressing challenges.
Pamplin College鈥檚 Center for Social Science Research involves students as active partners in research projects that assist local public and nonprofit agencies improve their effectiveness.

Your Future
Child, family and school social workers counsel individuals, families and communities about issues like child abuse, adoptions or teenage pregnancy. Social workers can also work in a health care setting, helping individuals, couples and families cope with illnesses and disabilities, or they can collaborate with medical professionals to determine patient needs, organize support groups or counseling, and refer patients to specialists in support services. They can also work as mental health social works and often provide client services in a nonprofit setting. The coursework also prepares students to pursue advanced degrees in social work or other graduate or professional programs.
