Rwanda, a land adorned with breathtaking vistas, warm-hearted souls, & beautiful wildlife, provides students a transformative educational adventure. From a sunlit savannah safari amidst the 鈥渓and of a thousand hills鈥� to vibrant market excursions, the journey extends to rural agrarian villages then diverse urban facades. This program of a lifetime will provide students hands-on learning opportunities and fantastic authentic cultural experiences.
Occupational therapy students will apply knowledge & skills learned through the 3rd semester of graduate OT coursework, transferring knowledge to real life situations through interaction with local Rwandan communities.
Nursing students will apply knowledge from previous course work as they engage in culturally immersive learning experiences with local/indigenous families and communities. Students will meet with community leaders, learn about the healthcare system, and explore the surrounding area.

MarchArrive in Kigali, Rwanda. Dinner at Rwandan KFC. Short trip to Centre Christus Hotel.

MarchBreakfast at hotel, lunch in the city of Kigali, visiting two genocide memorial sites for cultural and historical education. Leave for East Gate Hotel near Gahara and dinner at coffee/art gallery in route to hotel.

MarchBreakfast at hotel. Rural home visits to assess for health, sanitation, and quality of life. Cultural experience of cooking and dance experience with villagers. Lunch in village. Home visits with children and adults with disabilities. Learn about local agriculture and home life of person in the village including healthcare, communication demands, psychosocial needs, physical activity demands, and activities of daily living. Dinner at hotel.

MarchBreakfast at hotel. An hour of fun with kids, including songs, jump robes, bubbles, stickers. Assessment for adult artisans, cultural singing and dancing. Lunch in the village. Teaching villagers about sanitation, basic wound care/healing in large group format. Soccer game with villagers, physical group exercise. Dinner at hotel.

MarchBreakfast at hotel. Teach artisans to stretch and have ergonomic/body mechanics or nutrition and disease prevention. Visit to village home to experience the economics and quality of life. Lunch in village. Afternoon walk to water source or well to experience the process with a Rwandan family. Optional experience to carry water jug on head like Rwandan. Travel back to Kigali. Dinner at Simba caf茅.

MarchTour health facility in Muyumbu. Visit 鈥淐ity on a Hill鈥� project. Tour medical clinic. Lunch in Kigali at authentic African caf茅. Visit local grocery store to obtain items for safari meals and see what pharmacy items are available. Authentic shopping time. Dinner in city.

MarchBreakfast at Centre Christus. Working with a pediatric disability project, students will assess children with disabilities. Lunch provided. Home visits in the city in the afternoon. Dinner at Centre Christus.

MarchReturn to disability project for completing assessments for pediatric population in Muyumbu. Pack lunch. Meaningful play with pediatric population. Dinner at restaurant overlooking the city.

MarchBreakfast at hotel. Cultural experience in Muyumbu with traditional meal. Shopping experience and return to hotel to pack.
