Scholarships

The College of Allied Health Sciences offers many program-specific scholarships and awards. Refer to the department coordinator or student handbook for additional information.

Departmental Scholarships Collegewide

Scott Waddell Memorial Scholarship Award

This scholarship was created in memory of Scott Waddell, a student in the Physician Assistant Class of 2003, by his classmates. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial support to a physician assistant student, who emulates the qualities that Scott possessed.

CRITERIA: The recipient of this scholarship must be a rising senior student in the physician assistant program, who demonstrates the following qualities: 
1) academic excellence 
2) compassion 
3) willingness to serve

AMOUNT: $500 (amount may vary)

National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program

The NHSC Scholarship Program (NHSC SP) awards scholarships to students pursuing primary health care professions training in  in return for a commitment to provide health care to communities in need, upon graduation and the completion of training.

In return for each school year, or partial school year, of financial support received, students agree to provide primary health care services for one (1) year at an  located in a high-need . For the first school year, or partial school year, of support, there is a minimum 2-year service commitment.

Know What an NHSC Scholarship Includes:

Tax-free payment is made (for up to four years) for the following eligible expenses:

  • Tuition
  • Required fees
  • Other reasonable educational costs

Scholarship recipients also receive a monthly living stipend that is taxable.

The NHSC provides support to scholars while in school and offers tools and resources after graduation, during training, and while in practice.

Transitioning to Practice

Scholars choose where they will serve from a list of hundreds of NHSC-approved sites in high-need urban, rural, and frontier communities across the nation. The NHSC provides dedicated staff to assist scholars in successfully finding a practice site in the state of their choosing. Learn more about the .

In the months leading up to graduation and training, the NHSC provides scholars with information and materials they need to find a practice site. This includes connecting Scholars to a list of sites with job openings and supporting travel to and from interviews (there is a limit on the number of supported interviews). 

In Service

Once scholars are working in at an NHSC-approved site, the NHSC continues to support Corps members by offering:

  • networking opportunities
  • educational support, including access to free CEUs
  • connections to community resources, and much more

Donald E. Maner and Carbon T. Stewart Scholarship

This scholarship was created in memory of Carbon T. Stewart, M.A.R., PA-C a graduate in the Physician Assistant Class of 1974 who passed away in 2012, by his friends and colleagues, Donald E. Maner, PharmD, PA-C and Bonnie A. Dadig, EdD, PA-C. Interesting to note, Mr. Stewart was a founding member of the Georgia Association of Physician Assistants (1975) and he served on their Board of Directors (1975-1976) and as President (1976-1977). Carbon also served as the Chairman to the Georgia Delegation to the American Academy of Physician Assistants, House of Delegates (1977). Both Carbon and Donald were veterans, who served the United States of America in the military before they became PAs. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial support to a physician assistant student, who emulates the qualities that Carbon possessed.

The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarships to a rising senior 51吃瓜黑料曝料 Physician Assistant Student who is either a patriotic veteran who has served our country defending our rights and freedoms or the spouse or child of a wounded warrior; and honors the Physician Assistant's highest ideals and achievements in compassionate health care service; and fosters and encourages habits of leadership, compassion and kindness.
