Applying for Federal Aid

READ BEFORE YOU APPLY! THE 2024-2025 FAFSA IS CHANGING.

Key Changes:

  • The Student Aid Index (SAI) replaces the Expected Family Contribution Number (EFC).
  • Spouses or stepparents may need to participate as a contributor. A contributor is anyone required to provide information, a signature, and consent and approval to have their federal tax information transferred directly into the FAFSA form. This may include the student, the student鈥檚 spouse, a biological or adoptive parent, or a stepparent. Contributors are not financially responsible for the student鈥檚 education.
  • Federal tax information from the household will be transferred directly from the IRS into the form using the Direct Data Exchange (DDX). The DDX replaces the IRS data retrieval tool (DRT).
  • Consent and approval for the transfer of federal tax information from the household are required to be eligible for federal student aid.
  • Everyone must have their own StudentAid.gov account; these accounts can be created ahead of completing the FAFSA.
  • You will be provided with a FAFSA Submission Summary, which is a document that gives you basic information about your eligibility for federal financial aid. It also gives you a chance to review and correct the information listed on your FAFSA if you need to.

While the financial aid application process is relatively easy, individual circumstances may create complications. We highly encourage early application (as soon as possible after October 1st of the academic year in which the student plans to enroll), and a prompt response to any request for additional information from the Office of Student Financial Aid. It should be noted that incomplete files cannot be processed. Please let the financial aid office know if you need additional assistance or information.

Students selected for verification will need to provide all of the required additional documents to the Office of Student Financial Aid.

If the verification process results in mandatory corrections, the Office of Student Financial Aid will resubmit the corrections to the federal processor. Turn-around time can take up to 2 weeks. Please take appropriate action and plan for some possible out-of-pocket expenses.
