Student Plans

Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is offered to students needing health insurance coverage. If you are a student who doesn’t already have private insurance, UnitedHealthcare has two options for health insurance coverage - mandatory or voluntary.

The following groups of 51ԹϺ students are required to have health insurance per the and 51ԹϺ policies:

  • Undergraduate and Graduate International Students holding “F” or “J” visa status
  • Graduate Students receiving Full-time tuition waivers
  • Graduate Students receiving fellowships that fully fund their tuition
  • Graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in programs that require proof of health insurance as determined by 51ԹϺ
  • Students enrolled in Health Science Programs
  • Students who participate in a collegiate sports

Mandatory Health Insurance

For students (listed above) that are required by their program to have health insurance coverage.

Voluntary Health Insurance

For students that do not have private health insurance and would like to voluntarily enroll in SHIP.

Already insured under a private health insurance plan?

If you already have private health insurance and want to continue coverage under your own plan, you will need to waive coverage provided by 51ԹϺ.

If your current insurance plan meets the set by the Board of Regents, your waiver application will be approved and a credit for the insurance premium will be posted to your POUNCE account.

If your waiver application is denied, refer to the Waive Coverage page for information.

How To Enroll in SHIP

Please note: Students who are enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan for spring semester and are scheduled to graduate in August will have coverage extended by one month and the cost will be billed to their POUNCE account.

If you had an approved waiver and lose your current private insurance coverage during the semester, please email us at studentinsurance@augusta.edu to request enrollment in an 51ԹϺ Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).

Mandatory Insurance Plan

For students who are required by their program of study to have health insurance coverage, you must be registered for your classes with an active mailing/permanent US address in POUNCE before you will receive an email with the link to Opt-In to the mandatory plan. It can take up to 5 business days before the email with the link is sent.

Students may waive mandatory insurance if they have suitable private insurance. Find out how to waive coverage.

Voluntary Insurance Plan

Students who are NOT required by their program of study to have health insurance, may purchase insurance through the voluntary enrollment site.

What To Do

  1. Go to select the year you need coverage
  2. Scroll down to choose a voluntary insurance plan: “Medical - Domestic Voluntary”. You can also add optional Vision - Domestic Voluntary and Dental - Domestic Voluntary
  3. Once you are enrolled, set up your account.
  4. Print your insurance card from the .

If you do not already have an account you will need to create a HealthSafe ID (HSID) with UnitedHealthcare, use the setup link below. If you already have an HSID account or need to check/manage insurance information, log into your account using the link below.
